History and context
The city, called Lakamha, in its inscriptions, has a peak in the 7th and 8th centuries. The deciphering of Mayan writing has allowed to restore sovereigns, wars, alliances and rituals, replacing the old image of a peaceful and mysteriously disappeared civilization.
Why is this place spiritual?
Temples, tombs, ancestors, deities and royalty formed a political and cosmological whole. The contemporary Maya are not frozen survivals of Palenque, but living peoples with diverse traditions.
What the landscape makes you feel
The fog, animal cries and vegetation surround the open buildings while the main part of the city remains under the forest. This visible limit reminds us that not everything is to be searched.
