Introduction
Understanding Practice
L-Emotional Freedom Technique asks to tap certain supposed points of acupuncture by repeating a sentence linked to an emotion. Its frame of meridians is not necessarily the mechanism of any observed effect.
Benefits sought
- Subjective reduction of anxiety
- Refocus Ritual
- Self-salting
- Wording of emotion
History and evolution
Gary Craig developed the EFT from Thought Field Therapy in the 1990s. The method quickly spreads in self-help and coaching.
Practice guidance
- Name a difficulty
- Assessing its intensity
- Tap a sequence of points
- Re-evaluate without forcing a result
What does a session look like?
The practitioner helps to formulate a theme, guides the taps on the face and upper body, and then observes subjective evolution.
What we know — and what we don't know
Some studies suggest an effect on anxiety, but more comparative and robust research is needed.
Preliminary results are positive, but methodological quality is uneven and there is still a need to distinguish between exposure, relationship, rhythm and taping effects.
Precautions and limits
- Do not expose a person to a traumatic memory.
- Choose a qualified clinician for PTSD, dissociation or acute crisis.
- Do not promise a rapid and definitive removal of trauma.
Severe pain, aggravation, unusual symptom or psychological distress require appropriate professional advice. Orabel does not offer any diagnosis or prescription.
Status in France
The designation of EFT practitioner is not regulated. Trauma management requires recognized clinical skills.
Consent, stability and the right to stop go before the search for "emotional liberation".
