Documented knowledge

History and context

The sanctuary develops from the archaic period and welcomes treasures, temples, theatre and stadium. Cities from all over Greece dedicate monuments to it, while the Pythic Games reinforce its influence. Its influence decreases under the Roman Empire before the abandonment of ancient cults.

Traditions and philosophies

Why is this place spiritual?

Consulting the oracle required ritual preparation and interpretation. The famous formula "Know yourself", associated with the temple of Apollo, received many philosophical readings. Delphi recalls that divination, politics and religion were closely intertwined in antiquity.

Location experience

What the landscape makes you feel

The sacred path climbs the slope between monumental offerings. The relationship between ruins, olive trees, cliffs and light strongly contributes to the current perception, but it must not make us forget that the site was once dense, colourful and frequented.

Critical Look

Energy, atmosphere and feelings

Modern theories on telluric vapors or forces sometimes attempt to explain the rythm. Geological research discusses the presence of faults and gases, without reducing the delphic institution to a single mechanism or confirming a spiritual "energy".
